Rebar prices hold steady as slow demand limits upside

Egyptian rebar prices have remained broadly stable, with weak domestic demand and low trading activity limiting the scope for further increases despite higher production costs.

Ezz Steel continues to set the benchmark at EGP 39,850 (USD 764) per ton EXW, including 14pct VAT. Rebar from other producers is generally available at around EGP 34,000-39,850 (USD 652-764) per ton.

Market sources indicate that demand remains subdued, restricting producers’ ability to pass higher input costs on to buyers. At the same time, some smaller mills continue to face pressure from billet availability and import duties, affecting production economics.

The Egyptian currency has weakened to above EGP 52 per USD, adding pressure to costs, but the currency movement has so far not resulted in a significant change in domestic rebar prices.

In the export market, Egyptian rebar is quoted at around USD 605-615 per ton FOB, according to market sources.
