Scrap import prices flat as weak steel demand keeps mills cautious

Turkey’s scrap import prices remained unchanged this week as weak finished steel demand continued to curb buying appetite among steelmakers. Scrap import prices were assessed stable at USD 370-375 per ton CFR.

Turkish mills remain under pressure from sluggish domestic and export steel sales, prompting a cautious approach to raw material purchases. In contrast, scrap suppliers stayed bullish, citing tight winter availability, higher collection costs and improving demand in their home markets. Mills, however, have shown little willingness to accept higher scrap prices amid weak steel margins.

Meanwhile, Turkish long steel exports remain under pressure due to competitive offers from other countries. Turkish rebar export offers were heard at USD 555-560 per ton FOB, while wire rod offers were reported at USD 565-570 per ton FOB.
